Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I really need counseling? I'm not "crazy."
Everyone goes through rough times, and it can be difficult to decide whether or not to consult a professional. If you haven't been able to feel better on your own, counseling is one option. Going to counseling does not mean you're "crazy" or weak. It just means you're open to support, feedback, and learning new skills. Seeking the help you need is a sign of strength. Many people consult a therapist "as needed" when life gets especially tough, just as they consult a doctor when they're sick.
Will I have to talk about everything with the therapist?
At Bodhi Trail, we never press clients to talk about issues before they're ready. You have the right to set the pace of your therapy. If a therapist asks a question you don't want to answer, you're welcome to say you'd rather not talk about it.
What is EMDR and how could it help?
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. It's a therapy that has been shown to help reduce the symptoms of PTSD and trauma. It can also be used for other issues, like anxiety or chronic pain. We like it because it provides pretty fast relief for many people, and it doesn't require a lot of therapeutic homework like some other trauma therapies do. A qualified therapist or psychiatrist can help you decide if EMDR might be helpful for you.
What's with the hiking theme on your site?
Our founder and therapist just likes hiking! She hiked Longs Peak in Colorado, elevation 14,259′, way back in the '90s. It was a long, sometimes grueling trek but worth it - kind of like life! (If you hate hiking, that's fine - we're not haters.)
What if I'm still not sure about therapy?
We'd be happy to answer your questions whenever you're ready. We like hearing from you!
